Photographs I've gleaned from flea markets, junk shops and sometimes ebay. The cheaper the better. Anything with a story that can be extracted from hand written notes, location research, local histories, census records......anything. A small band of fellow enthusiasts worldwide have helped me with many of these. Of course there are always mysteries that defy research, but there's even a story inside these. All images can be viewed at super-size on Flickr.
A lovely shot for sure but is this what English beaches are like, I wouldn't say that was sand! I especially liked the entry about the Canton steamboat captain, it gives me hope that I may stumble across something in the old newspapers about my Scots captain who lived & worked in China one of these days.
What a natural shot of a child engrossed in playing ith his boat.
ReplyDeleteToo bad someone in his family didn't want to keep this photo, but I'm glad you rescued it.
ReplyDeleteA well focused and beautiful shot!

ReplyDeletePlenty of sandy beaches in Britain, but not down on the south coast where this was probably taken.
DeleteHe had to have something to keep his mind off the uncomfortable pebble beach. Nice find!
ReplyDeleteIt's a rare sand beach in Britain, so no sand castles unless you have mortar. I like the child's moccasin type shoes.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a picture perfect photo of sepia, right on target with the theme, and such an adorable child very happy to have this fine boat to sail!
ReplyDeletePrecious!

Cute photo. He looks like he knows what he is doing (though I don't).
ReplyDeleteA perfect photo - and from the picture and comments I also learned a little about English beaches - something I'd never really thought about.
ReplyDeleteSweet photo! What I also noticed were his little shoes. Those are quite interesting.
ReplyDeleteBeyond just the sepia warmth, I like imagining the moment this was taken. A warm family moment or a posed commercial shot?
ReplyDeleteI have added you to my blog list "Other Sites, Other Worlds" in hopes others discover your site.
